Erie Man Pleads Guilty to Cocaine Conspiracy
Rafael Vazquez Valentin, a 38-year-old man with ties to Erie, Pennsylvania, has been found guilty of violating federal drug laws.
According to court documents, Valentin, along with two co-defendants, conspired to distribute and possess with intent to distribute more than a kilogram of cocaine.
U.S. Attorney Scott W. Brady announced the guilty plea in federal court. Rafael Vazquez Valentin pleaded guilty to one count before United States District Judge David S. Cercone.
The investigation that led to the prosecution of Valentin was conducted by the EAGLE task force, which includes members from the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Pennsylvania Attorney General’s Office, Bureau of Narcotics Investigation and the Erie Police Department.
Assistant United States Attorney Marshall J. Piccinini is prosecuting the case on behalf of the government.
Valentin is scheduled to be sentenced on January 2, 2019 at 12:45 p.m. If convicted, he faces a total sentence of 40 years in prison, a fine of $5,000,000, or both.
