Brandon Charles Nelson, a 40-year-old Washington state man, failed to report to the Northwest Regional Re-entry Center (NWRRC) in Portland, Oregon, after being referred there while in federal custody. On February 25, 2025, Nelson’s supervision was revoked due to his third violation of release conditions, and he was sentenced to 12 months in prison and 18 months of supervised release. Instead of complying, Nelson absconded, prompting a federal grand jury to indict him on December 16, 2025, for escape from custody.
Nelson was arrested by the USMS on December 5, 2025. Following a two-day trial that started on February 23, 2026, a jury convicted him of one count of escape from custody on February 25, 2026. As a result, Nelson was sentenced to 24 months in federal prison and 3 years of supervised release.
The USMS investigated the case, with Assistant U.S. Attorney Arin Heinz prosecuting. U.S. Attorney Scott E. Bradford for the District of Oregon announced the sentencing. Nelson’s initial conviction was for being a felon in possession of a firearm, for which he received a 36-month prison sentence and 36 months of supervised release.
