A Honduran national, Cristhian Martinez, 21, has pleaded guilty to his role in a fentanyl trafficking conspiracy that led to a fatal overdose in Clackamas County, Oregon. Martinez, who was unlawfully residing in the United States, was identified as the person who sold fentanyl to the deceased victim’s dealer in September 2023. The investigation began after members of the Clackamas County Interagency Task Force (CCITF) were called to investigate the fatal overdose.
On November 16, 2023, investigators located Martinez traveling from California into Oregon and conducted a traffic stop in Gladstone, Oregon. A K-9 sweep of Martinez’s vehicle found multiple concealed packages containing over one kilogram of compressed fentanyl. A subsequent search of his apartment yielded more fentanyl, a 20-ton shop press used to produce fentanyl powder, multiple firearms, and other materials consistent with drug trafficking.
Martinez faces a maximum sentence of life in prison, a $10 million fine, and five years of supervised release. The government will seek a sentence of 210 months’ imprisonment. Martinez will be sentenced on August 4, 2026, before a U.S. District Court judge.
The case was investigated by the FBI, CCITF, and other agencies. U.S. Attorney Scott E. Bradford of the District of Oregon made the announcement.
