A 45-year-old Portland man has been found guilty of selling fentanyl that killed a local resident, in a case that shocked the community.

Hugo Gomez-Soto was on trial for distributing the deadly opioid, which caused the fatal overdose death of a Portland man.

A federal jury delivered the guilty verdict, marking the end of a long and intense investigation.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office in Oregon is joining forces with local, state and federal agencies to observe National Crime Victims’ Rights Week, April 19-25, 2026.

As part of the observance, the office highlighted recent wins in victim-focused cases, including the Gomez-Soto conviction.
