EVANSVILLE, IN – Brandon Kyle Meredith Adcox, 39, of Evansville, Indiana, is headed to federal prison for eight years after admitting to a sickening crime: distributing child sexual abuse material (CSAM) through the Kik Messenger app. The sentence, handed down by U.S. District Court Judge Richard L. Young, sends a clear message – online predators will be hunted down and held accountable.
The case unfolded after the Indiana Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Force and Evansville Police Department (EPD) received a CyberTip on August 30, 2021. The tip flagged 36 files containing CSAM that had been uploaded and shared on Kik between June 10th and 15th. Investigators traced the account’s email address to Adcox, and records confirmed the account was accessed from his Evansville apartment. A subsequent search warrant turned up damning evidence.
Adcox willingly cooperated with law enforcement, providing the passcode to his iPhone and confessing to both distributing and receiving CSAM on multiple occasions. He even admitted investigators would find further depraved content on his phone. The files included a particularly disturbing video depicting an adult female committing a sexual act with an infant less than one year old – a detail that underscores the severity of his crimes.
“Criminals like this defendant use online platforms to share child sexual abuse materials and seek affirmation from others who share their sexual interest in children,” stated Zachary A. Myers, United States Attorney for the Southern District of Indiana. “The dangerous predators who traffic in images of these horrific crimes re-victimize children for their own pleasure—and should take note of the sentence imposed today.” FBI Indianapolis Special Agent in Charge Herbert J. Stapleton added, “Those who sexually exploit children in this manner cause great harm to their young victims and deserve a strong punishment.”
Beyond the eight-year prison sentence, Adcox will face ten years of supervised release following his incarceration. He is also required to register as a sex offender wherever he lives, works, or attends school – a lifelong consequence for his abhorrent actions. The investigation was a collaborative effort between the FBI, Indiana ICAC Task Force, and the Evansville Police Department, demonstrating the power of interagency cooperation in combating online child exploitation.
The Southern District of Indiana has consistently been a national leader in prosecuting CSAM cases, ranking second among all 94 federal districts in 2019. This case was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a Department of Justice initiative aimed at dismantling the child sexual exploitation epidemic. Assistant United States Attorney Todd Shellenbarger prosecuted the case, ensuring justice was served for the vulnerable victims whose lives Adcox so carelessly disregarded. The Indiana ICAC Task Force continues to evaluate thousands of tips annually, rescuing dozens of children from ongoing abuse.
