Andrew Nicholas Evich, Child Rape Image Possession and Distribution, Washington 2015

Everett’s ANDREW NICHOLAS EVICH, a registered sex offender with a chilling history, has been charged with possessing and distributing images of child rape. The 67-year-old faces federal charges after authorities allege he posed online as a teenager interested in explicit child content.

The grim revelations came from Acting United States Attorney Annette L. Hayes, who announced the arrest yesterday. EVICH’s initial appearance was in U.S. District Court in Seattle, where he remains in federal custody pending a detention hearing scheduled for March 10, 2015.

Agents with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Homeland Security Investigations identified EVICH as the individual using a peer-to-peer file sharing program to distribute graphic material depicting child molestation and rape. The investigation into the origin of hundreds of explicit images is ongoing.

EVICH’s record includes a 1974 conviction for raping and murdering a six-year-old boy, followed by convictions in 1985 and 1998 for sexual contact with a minor and receipt of child pornography. If convicted on these new charges, he faces up to 40 years in prison, thanks to his extensive criminal history.

The case is part of Project Safe Childhood, the Justice Department’s initiative to combat child sexual exploitation. Assistant United States Attorney Kate Vaughan, who serves as the Project Safe Childhood Coordinator for the U.S. Attorney’s Office, is prosecuting this case.

Despite the charges being only allegations, EVICH is presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
