Shootout Suspects Sentenced to Over 8 Years in Prison

In a shocking turn of events, two Jacksonville residents have been sentenced to over eight years in federal prison for their involvement in a fatal shootout in 2019.

Evonte Earl Glover, 29, and Terry Lavon Shuman, 27, pleaded guilty to possessing a firearm as a convicted felon. Glover had previously been convicted of three felonies, including a home invasion robbery, possession of cocaine, and sale, manufacture, or delivery of cocaine. Shuman had been previously convicted of armed robbery and fleeing or attempting to elude police.

The shootout occurred on November 10, 2019, in the Cassat Avenue area of Jacksonville. During the incident, Glover and Shuman each possessed and fired handguns several times, resulting in the death of another individual.

The case was investigated by the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. It was prosecuted by Special Assistant United States Attorney Cyrus P. Zomorodian and Assistant United States Attorney Beatriz Gonzalez.

The sentencing is part of the joint federal, state, and local Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN) Program, which aims to reduce violent crime in communities. PSN focuses enforcement efforts on the most violent offenders and partners with locally based prevention and reentry programs for lasting reductions in crime.

Glover and Shuman will each serve eight years and four months in federal prison for their crimes. The sentencing is a significant step towards justice for the victim and their family.
