BEAUMONT, Texas — A 56-year-old former middle school teacher who once stood at the front of classrooms shaping young minds is now headed to federal prison for preying on children online. Gary Alan George, a former Beaumont Independent School District educator, was sentenced today to 60 months in federal prison for receiving child pornography, closing a years-long investigation rooted in digital depravity.
George, who taught in Jefferson County from 1999 to 2014, pleaded guilty on April 5, 2016, to one count of receiving child pornography. U.S. District Judge Thad Heartfield handed down the sentence in the Eastern District of Texas, marking a grim end to a case that exposed the hidden life of a man entrusted with educating children while secretly consuming and distributing their abuse.
According to court documents, the investigation began during an undercover operation led by Homeland Security Investigations. Posing as a participant in illicit online networks, an undercover agent received multiple images of child pornography from George. The digital trail led authorities straight to his residence, where a search warrant was executed and multiple electronic devices were seized.
Forensic analysis of those devices revealed thousands of disturbing files — including both child erotica and confirmed child pornography. The volume and nature of the material painted a pattern of prolonged criminal behavior. George was indicted by a federal grand jury on May 6, 2015, well before his guilty plea, signaling the severity with which prosecutors viewed his crimes.
This case was prosecuted under Project Safe Childhood, the Department of Justice initiative launched in May 2006 to combat the rising tide of child sexual exploitation. Spearheaded by U.S. Attorneys’ Offices and the Criminal Division’s Child Exploitation and Obscenity Section (CEOS), the program coordinates federal, state, and local efforts to identify, apprehend, and convict offenders who exploit minors via the internet.
The investigation was a joint effort between Homeland Security Investigations and the Beaumont Police Department. Assistant U.S. Attorney Lesley A. Woods handled the prosecution. Acting U.S. Attorney Brit Featherston confirmed the sentencing, underscoring the federal government’s commitment to holding predators like Gary Alan George accountable, no matter their former standing in the community.
