A Del Rio man has been put away for a long time after a federal judge handed down an 8-year sentence for possessing child sex abuse material.
Henry P. Arredondo, 23, was found to be in possession of 46 disturbing images depicting the abuse of prepubescent male children, which he received and sent via social media in August 2021.
A Homeland Security Investigations forensic analysis of Arredondo’s cell phone uncovered the vile content, leading to his arrest on August 26, 2022. He pleaded guilty to the charges on November 21, 2022.
‘This case is a stark reminder of the horrors that exist online,’ said U.S. Attorney Jaime Esparza of the Western District of Texas.
The case was investigated by Homeland Security Investigations and prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Rex Beasley.
‘We will continue to work tirelessly to identify and prosecute those who exploit children via the internet,’ Esparza added.
Arredondo’s sentence is the result of a nationwide initiative to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse, known as Project Safe Childhood.
Project Safe Childhood was launched in May 2006 by the Department of Justice and marshals federal, state, and local resources to better locate, apprehend, and prosecute individuals who exploit children via the internet, as well as to identify and rescue victims.
