A federal grand jury in Atlanta has indicted Marc Shultz, 66, of Chula Vista, California, for threatening Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis over her prosecution of former President Donald Trump. Shultz allegedly made his threats via YouTube live stream videos in October 2023.
According to the indictment, Shultz posted multiple comments on two separate YouTube live stream videos on October 4 and 5, 2023. In his comments, he threatened District Attorney Willis with violence and murder, stating that she “will be killed like a dog.”
U.S. Attorney Ryan K. Buchanan vowed to protect public officials from harm, stating, “Sending death threats to a public official is a criminal offense that will not be tolerated.”
FBI Atlanta’s Keri Farley added, “Threats of violence against government officials threaten the very fabric of our democracy. We want everyone to know that if you engage in such behavior, you will be held accountable to the fullest extent of the law.”
Shultz was formally arraigned in federal court in San Diego, California, on May 2, 2024, and will make a formal appearance in Atlanta in June. He is presumed innocent of the charges until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
The case is being investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorneys Bret R. Hobson and Brent Alan Gray. Members of the public can contact the U.S. Attorney’s Public Affairs Office at USAGAN.PressEmails@usdoj.gov or (404) 581-6016 for further information.
Shultz’s indictment serves as a reminder that threats against public officials will not be tolerated and will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.
