Former Falmouth Resident Pleads Guilty to Accessing Child Pornography
Aaron Cassidy, 48, a former Falmouth resident, pleaded guilty today in U.S. District Court in Portland to accessing child pornography with intent to view, Acting U.S. Attorney Donald E. Clark announced.
According to court records, Homeland Security Investigations agents were investigating the sharing of child pornography using Ares, a peer-to-peer file-sharing program, in March 2015. They downloaded a child pornography video from an internet protocol address assigned to a residence in Falmouth. Agents obtained a search warrant for the residence and executed it in May 2015.
Agents found a laptop computer in the bedroom of Cassidy that contained evidence of the Ares file-sharing program, as well as images and videos of minors engaged in sexually explicit conduct. Cassidy’s laptop was seized and analyzed, revealing the incriminating evidence.
Cassidy faces a maximum of 10 years in prison, a $250,000 fine, and a term of supervised release of at least five years and up to life. He will be sentenced after the completion of a presentence investigation report by the U.S. Probation Office.
A federal district court judge will determine any sentence after considering the U.S. Sentencing Guidelines and other statutory factors. Cassidy’s sentencing is a significant step towards justice for the victims of child exploitation.

This case was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse.
