Brooklyn’s basketball underworld just got a whole lot smaller. Ex-NBA player Damon Jones, who once suited up for the Cleveland Cavaliers and coached the Los Angeles Lakers, just copped to a sports betting scam that raked in over $10 million.
According to court documents, Jones used inside info from multiple NBA teams to make winning bets, while also running high-stakes poker games with rigged outcomes.
The scheme, which spanned across the country, targeted unsuspecting victims who thought they were playing fair games.
Jones, a former professional basketball player from 2005 to 2008, pleaded guilty to two counts of wire fraud conspiracy in federal court in Brooklyn.
Nearly a decade after his playing days, Jones’s actions have finally caught up with him, and he’s facing the music for his corrupt conduct.
