Ex-Wife Abuser Sentenced to 33 Years

Tulsa, OK – Randy Alan Hamett, a 64-year-old man from Choctaw, Oklahoma, was sentenced to 396 months, or 33 years, in federal prison for kidnapping and assaulting his ex-wife. U.S. District Judge Claire V. Eagan handed down the sentence, which also includes five years of supervised release.

According to the investigation, Hamett kidnapped his ex-wife in April 2017, cutting a hole in her outside wall to gain entry. He then tased her, pointed a revolver at her, and bound her hands and feet. Hamett forced the victim into a car, stole a revolver she had purchased, and kidnapped her, eventually sexually assaulting her over a two-day period.

The victim, who has chosen to remain anonymous, made every effort to prolong the trip and gain Hamett’s trust. She convinced him they should get back together and remarry in Arkansas, eventually allowing her to text her parents and boyfriend. However, her parents became suspicious of her whereabouts and contacted the Broken Arrow Police Department, who launched a concerted investigation with the Siloam Springs Police Department.

Officers were able to locate Hamett and the victim at a hotel in Siloam Springs, Arkansas, where they determined Hamett was holding the victim against her will. When arrested, officers found Hamett in possession of a firearm and ammunition, as well as Taser cartridges. A murder preparation list was also found in his pocket, including the words: taser, rope, zip ties, machete, and shovel.

Hamett was initially convicted in federal court in 2018, but his conviction was overturned on appeal and he was granted a new trial. In 2020, a federal jury convicted Hamett on 12 counts, including kidnapping in Indian Country, carjacking, and possession of a firearm while subject to a domestic violence protective order.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office commended the victim for her resilience and strength in surviving the traumatic assault and facing Hamett through two trials. ‘The victim in this case exemplifies resilience and strength,’ said Acting U.S. Attorney Clint Johnson. ‘Alisa survived a traumatic assault, faced Randy Hamett through two trials and is now an advocate for other victims of domestic violence.’

Hamett was ordered to pay $4,075 to the victim for medical costs incurred. U.S. Attorney Johnson also praised the coordinated investigative work of the Broken Arrow and Siloam Springs Police Departments, as well as the ATF, in bringing Hamett’s conviction to justice.
