Fabian Lopez Mejia, Unlawful Reentry, Massachusetts 2024

BOSTON – A Colombian man, identified as Fabian Lopez Mejia, 31, was sentenced to six months in prison for illegally reentering the United States after deportation.

Lopez Mejia was previously removed from the United States in November 2019, but he returned at some point after his removal. Federal authorities became aware of Lopez Mejia’s return while he was serving a state prison sentence for unrelated charges.

Lopez Mejia pleaded guilty in September 2024 to one count of unlawful reentry of a deported alien. He was indicted by a federal grand jury in June 2024.

In addition to the federal charges, Lopez Mejia also pleaded guilty in October 2023 in Suffolk Superior Court to one count of possession with intent to distribute a Class B substance and one count of forgery/misuse of an RMV document.

Acting United States Attorney Joshua S. Levy and Todd M. Lyons, Field Office Director, Boston, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Enforcement and Removal Operations, announced Lopez Mejia’s sentencing.

Assistant U.S. Attorney John J. Reynolds III of the Major Crimes Unit prosecuted the case.

Fabian Lopez Mejia’s sentence includes six months in prison to be followed by one year of supervised release.
