Michael Queen, Conspiracy to Obstruct Justice, Virginia 2024

Alexandria, Va. – A federal grand jury indicted Michael Queen, 28, and Soufian Amri, 32, owners of a Fairfax gaming center, on charges of conspiracy to obstruct justice and make false statements involving international terrorism. They are accused of lying to FBI agents to cover up their friend’s support for the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL).

Queen and Amri, both from Virginia, were charged with obstruction of justice and making false statements involving international terrorism after allegations surfaced that they knew Haris Qamar attempted to travel overseas to join ISIL in 2014. Despite this knowledge, they claimed only a ‘tall, thin, Indian’ individual might travel to support the terrorist group.

Queen, who later confessed to Qamar, said he and Amri had given the FBI the name of a Hindu individual as someone who might support ISIL. He stated, ‘I’m never going to throw a Muslim underneath the bus to try to do the right thing.’

Qamar was sentenced to 8 1/2 years in prison on February 17 for attempting to provide material support to ISIL.

Queen and Amri face up to 20 years in prison if convicted, though actual sentences are typically less severe. Assistant U.S. Attorneys Gordon D. Kromberg and Colleen E. Garcia will prosecute the case, with Dana J. Boente, U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia; and Andrew W. Vale, Assistant Director in Charge of the FBI’s Washington Field Office, leading the investigation.
