Fairmont Man Sentenced for Arming Drug Trafficking

A Marion County man was sentenced to 5 years in prison for his role in a drug trafficking operation that was armed with a firearm.

Craig Steven Abercrombie, Jr., 32, of Fairmont, West Virginia, was sentenced to 60 months in prison for unlawful possession of a firearm in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime, United States Attorney William J. Ihlenfeld, II, announced.

In July 2015, Abercrombie was discovered in possession of cocaine and a 9mm pistol in Marion County, West Virginia. This led to his arrest and eventual guilty plea in December 2015 to one count of “Possession of a Firearm in Relation to a Drug Trafficking Crime.”

Assistant U.S. Attorney David Perri prosecuted the case on behalf of the government, working closely with the Fairmont, West Virginia Police Department and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives to bring Abercrombie to justice.

The investigation into Abercrombie’s activities led to significant progress in disrupting the local drug trade. The authorities are confident that this sentence will serve as a warning to other individuals considering similar actions.

U.S. District Judge Irene M. Keeley presided over Abercrombie’s sentencing, handing down the 60-month sentence as prescribed by the law.

Law enforcement officials and prosecutors are urging the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to the authorities. The success of this case highlights the importance of community cooperation in combating crime.
