Fajardo Orshan Takes the Reins in S. Florida Crime Fight

Ariana Fajardo Orshan was sworn in as the new U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of Florida, promising to keep the community safe and the rule of law closely guarded.

Fajardo Orshan succeeds Benjamin G. Greenberg, who has been serving as the chief federal law enforcement officer for the district since March 4, 2017. Greenberg will remain with the Office as the First Assistant to the U.S. Attorney.

During a ceremony held at the Office, Chief Judge K. Michael Moore administered the oath of office to Fajardo Orshan, who was nominated by President Donald Trump on June 7, 2018, and confirmed by the U.S. Senate on August 28, 2018.

Fajardo Orshan, a native of Miami, brings a wealth of experience to the position. She served as a Judge of the Eleventh Judicial Circuit Court of Florida and an adjunct professor at Florida International University College of Law. Before becoming a judge, she was a partner in a boutique law firm specializing in litigation and began her legal career as an Assistant State Attorney in Miami-Dade County, where she prosecuted a wide variety of crimes, specializing in narcotics and organized crime.

As U.S. Attorney, Fajardo Orshan will lead the nation’s third largest U.S. Attorney’s Office, overseeing a staff of approximately 220 Assistant U.S. Attorneys and a similar number of support personnel, in the district’s offices in Miami, Fort Lauderdale, West Palm Beach, and Fort Pierce.

Fajardo Orshan expressed her gratitude to Greenberg for his dedicated service to the U.S. Attorney’s Office and the South Florida community. She also thanked President Trump for the opportunity to serve in this position and promised to work tirelessly to ensure that the community is safe and the rule of law is closely guarded.

With her extensive experience and dedication to public service, Fajardo Orshan is poised to make a significant impact in the fight against crime in the Southern District of Florida.

Fajardo Orshan was appointed to the bench in 2012 by Governor Rick Scott. She earned her B.S. from Florida International University and her J.D. from Nova Southeastern University Shepard Broad Law Center.

The Southern District of Florida encompasses a geographical area of more than 15,000 square miles extending south to Key West, north to Sebastian and west to Sebring. The district includes the counties of Miami-Dade, Broward, Monroe, Palm Beach, Martin, St. Lucie, Indian River, Okeechobee and Highlands.
