A brutal carjacking in St. Louis, Missouri, turned deadly when a man was shot five times. Terry Thomas, 21, is accused of stealing a Kia Stinger on May 6, 2024, in Jennings, Missouri, resulting in the victim’s death. The stolen vehicle was found abandoned in Creve Coeur about six hours later. Thomas was arrested by police on June 20, 2024.

Thomas was indicted on July 16, 2025, with one count of carjacking resulting in death, one count of use of a firearm during a crime of violence, and one count of causing death through the use of a firearm. He pleaded not guilty in US District Court in St. Louis.

The case was investigated by the St. Louis County Police Department and the FBI. Assistant US Attorney Torrie J. Schneider is prosecuting the case, which is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods, a nationwide initiative to combat violent crime.

The prosecution is seeking to have Thomas held in jail until trial, citing the seriousness of the crime. The victim’s death was a result of being shot five times, according to a motion filed in court.
