Fayetteville Man Guilty of Marriage Fraud Conspiracy
FAYETTEVILLE, NC – In a shocking case of deceit, a U.S. Army Sergeant has been found guilty of conspiring to commit marriage fraud, along with making a false statement in an immigration matter.
Edward Kumi Anguah, a 30-year-old Sergeant from Fayetteville, North Carolina, was convicted in federal court following a two-day trial before Chief United States District Judge Terrence W. Boyle. Anguah faces a maximum sentence of 10 years imprisonment.
According to sources, Anguah conspired with foreign nationals to engage in fraudulent marriages with U.S. Army soldiers. These foreign nationals were seeking legal status in the United States, to which they were not entitled. By marrying the soldiers, they hoped to gain access to the country’s immigration system.
