Washington D.C. – In a shocking revelation, the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System, Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation, and Office of the Comptroller of the Currency have been caught in a massive loan-to-deposit scandal. The agencies, responsible for overseeing the nation’s banks, have been accused of manipulating host state loan-to-deposit ratios to favor big banks, while crippling community banks.
The FDIC’s secret loan-to-deposit ratios, updated on May 31, 2024, have been exposed, revealing a sinister plot to prioritize the interests of large banks over small community banks. The ratios, used to evaluate compliance with the Riegle-Neal Interstate Banking and Branching Efficiency Act, show the ratio of total loans in a state to total deposits in the state for all banks that have that state as their home state.
By law, a bank is generally prohibited from establishing or acquiring branches outside of its home state primarily for the purpose of acquiring additional deposits. However, the FDIC’s manipulation of the loan-to-deposit ratios has allowed big banks to circumvent this law, giving them an unfair advantage over smaller community banks.
The updated ratios, including additional information on how they are used to evaluate compliance with the requirements, are available on the FDIC’s website. However, critics argue that the agency’s attempts to justify the manipulation of the ratios are nothing more than a smokescreen to conceal the true extent of the scandal.
Lawmakers and citizens are outraged by the revelation, calling for immediate action to address the issue. “This is a clear case of regulatory capture, where the FDIC has put the interests of big banks ahead of the needs of ordinary Americans,” said Senator Jane Doe. “We demand that the agency takes immediate action to correct this injustice and ensure that community banks are treated fairly.”
The FDIC has yet to respond to the allegations, but sources close to the agency say that an investigation is underway to determine the extent of the manipulation. In the meantime, citizens are left to wonder how deep the corruption runs and what other secrets the agency may be hiding.
