On Tuesday evening, two individuals, Amir A. Fagan and Demond Edwards, attempted to rob federal agents during an undercover operation in a Chicago suburb. The incident occurred near a residence in Country Club Hills, Ill., where the undercover officers and a confidential informant had arrived to purchase firearms as part of an ongoing firearms trafficking investigation. Fagan and Edwards, along with a third individual, allegedly exited a car and pointed firearms at the officers and informant, prompting a separate team of ATF agents to quickly arrive at the scene and fire shots, striking Fagan.
The alleged getaway driver, Chashonn Toney, allegedly rammed the car into an ATF vehicle while attempting to flee. Edwards ran from the scene on foot but was located by another officer about two blocks away, resulting in a physical altercation that ended with the officer shooting Edwards, wounding him. The complaint charges Fagan, 19, of Harvey, Ill., and Edwards, 18, of Markham, Ill., with attempted robbery, while Toney, 18, of Robbins, Ill., is charged with forcibly assaulting a law enforcement officer.
