Feds Reduce Sentences for Thousands of Inmates
In a major move to ease the burden on the overcrowded prison system, Attorney General Eric Holder announced that the U.S. Sentencing Commission has approved retroactive implementation of sentence reductions for certain drug offenses.
Holder stated that the Bureau of Prisons will begin notifying federal inmates of the opportunity to apply for a reduction in sentence immediately. This move is expected to impact thousands of inmates who are currently serving time for non-violent drug offenses.
