Aaron England, a 30-year-old Rapid City man, was sentenced to 5 years in federal prison for possessing a firearm as a felon. The incident occurred on July 23, 2024, when law enforcement initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle England was driving in Rapid City, South Dakota. England failed to stop immediately and later fled on foot, leaving behind a stolen pistol and drug paraphernalia on the floorboard of the driver’s side.
England, who had been convicted of a crime punishable by more than a year in prison, was prohibited from possessing firearms or ammunition. He was later caught and arrested, and pleaded guilty on April 13, 2026. The case was investigated by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and the Rapid City police department.
The sentencing took place on July 13, 2026, and England was also ordered to pay a $100 special assessment to the Federal Crime Victims Fund and serve 3 years of supervised release. This case is part of Operation Take Back America, a nationwide initiative aimed at reducing gun violence and protecting communities from violent crime.
The operation streamlines efforts and resources from the Department’s Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces and Project Safe Neighborhood. The District of South Dakota seeks to bring together all levels of law enforcement and the communities they serve to reduce gun violence and make neighborhoods safer.
