Jerry Allan Kretzschmar, 44, of Bryant, South Dakota, was caught with a stash of guns despite being a felon. On February 5, 2025, investigators from the Hamlin County Sheriff’s Office raided Kretzschmar’s residence, uncovering numerous firearms and drug-related items. A follow-up search of a nearby farm property yielded even more guns, totaling 12 firearms. Kretzschmar’s prior felony conviction prohibits him from possessing firearms.
Kretzschmar pleaded guilty to the charges on October 8, 2025, after being indicted by a federal grand jury in August 2025. The case falls under Operation Take Back America, a nationwide initiative targeting violent crime and transnational criminal organizations.
U.S. District Judge Charles B. Kornmann handed down a sentence of 30 months in federal prison, followed by three years of supervised release. Kretzschmar must also pay a $100 special assessment to the Federal Crime Victims Fund.
The investigation was a joint effort between the Hamlin County Sheriff’s Office and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. Assistant U.S. Attorney was involved in the case.
