Anthony Dean, a 24-year-old Buffalo man and prior felon, was caught with a loaded semi-automatic handgun at a large, unruly street party in Buffalo, NY, on July 15, 2026. The incident occurred at Eddie Dawson Park on Roetzer Street, where Buffalo Police and the FBI responded to a call around 10 p.m. Dean, who was convicted of a felony in Erie County Court in April 2024, is legally prohibited from possessing a firearm.
As law enforcement officers arrived, Dean reached for his waistband and retrieved a firearm, prompting an officer to shout ‘gun’ and give chase. Dean was apprehended after throwing the firearm in the direction of a responding New York State Police trooper, striking the trooper in the leg.
Dean was arrested and charged by criminal complaint with being a felon in possession of a weapon, which carries a maximum penalty of 15 years in prison and a $250,000 fine. He made an initial appearance before U.S. Magistrate Michael J. Romer and was held pending a detention hearing on July 21, 2026.
