Felon Caught with 7 Guns
MARTINSBURG, WEST VIRGINIA – A Maryland man has been convicted of unlawful possession of firearms, despite being prohibited from owning guns due to a previous felony conviction.
Jesse Shayde Kenney, 25, of LaVale, Maryland, was found to be in possession of six rifles and one shotgun in June 2015, according to court documents.
Kenney had previously been convicted of the felony offense of “Conspiracy to Commit Theft in an Amount Greater Than $500” in the Circuit Court of Allegany County, Maryland.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Paul Camilletti prosecuted the case on behalf of the government, and it was investigated by the Mineral County, West Virginia Sheriff’s Office and Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.
U.S. Magistrate Judge Robert W. Trumble presided over the case, in which Kenney pled guilty to one count of “Felon in Possession of a Firearm.” He faces up to 10 years in prison and a fine of up to $250,000.
Under the Federal Sentencing Guidelines, the actual sentence imposed will be based upon the seriousness of the offenses and the prior criminal history, if any, of the defendant.
Kenney’s guilty plea comes after a lengthy investigation into his possession of firearms, which he is prohibited from owning due to his felony conviction.
This case is a reminder of the importance of adhering to the law, particularly for those with a history of felony convictions.
