Nathaniel A. Muniz-Spry, a 39-year-old Everson, Washington resident, was caught with a gun near the US-Canada border in Blaine, Washington, on June 16, 2026. Muniz-Spry, a repeat offender with a history of violent crimes, was taken into custody after a surveillance camera spotted him in an area known for illegal border crossings and smuggling activity. US Border Patrol agents encountered Muniz-Spry and discovered he had a gun at his waistband, which he resisted and tried to flee with, resulting in him being shot in the leg.
Muniz-Spry has a lengthy criminal record, including convictions for unlawful possession of a firearm, burglary, and bail jumping. He is prohibited from possessing a firearm due to his prior convictions, which include Unlawful possession of a firearm, Unlawful possession of a short barreled shotgun or rifle, Possession of a stolen vehicle, Bail jumping, Unlawful possession of a firearm in the first degree, Burglary in the second degree, Felony violation of a no contact order, and Residential burglary.
The case is being investigated by the FBI with assistance from the Blaine Police Department, Whatcom County Sheriff’s Office, Homeland Security Investigation (HSI), and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF). Muniz-Spry was charged federally with being a felon in possession of a firearm, and his case is being prosecuted by the US Attorney’s Office.
