Trenton Edward Watkins, Felon in Possession of a Firearm, Alabama 2012

A 21-year-old man from Daphne, Alabama, Trenton Edward Watkins, has been sentenced to 84 months in federal prison for being a felon in possession of a firearm. Watkins, a thrice convicted felon, was found illegally possessing a loaded Springfield Armory XDM 9mm semi-automatic pistol, which had been stolen, in connection with a domestic situation and vehicle chase on Park Avenue and Pollard Road in Daphne, Alabama.

The incident occurred on November 2, 2012, when Watkins drove erratically on Park Avenue and fired at least one shot during the chase as oncoming drivers swerved or ran off the road to avoid being hit by Watkins’ vehicle, and as school children waited at bus stops. Fortunately, no one was injured.

This case was investigated by the Daphne Police Department and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives. Watkins’ erratic driving and reckless behavior put the lives of many at risk, including school children.

Judge William H. Steele presided over the sentencing hearing, which established that Watkins’ actions were egregious and posed a significant threat to public safety. Watkins’ prior convictions as a felon make him ineligible to possess a firearm, and his actions on that day demonstrated a blatant disregard for the law and the well-being of others.

The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives commended the Daphne Police Department for their diligence in investigating the case and bringing Watkins to justice. This case serves as a reminder of the importance of responsible gun ownership and the severe consequences of violating federal firearms laws.

Watkins’ sentence of 84 months in federal prison is a just punishment for his actions, which posed a significant risk to public safety. The Grimy Times will continue to monitor this case and provide updates as necessary.

A representative from the Daphne Police Department stated that Watkins’ actions were a clear example of the dangers of recklessness and the importance of following the law. The department commended the cooperation of the community in bringing Watkins to justice.
