Dana Lee Scott, Jr., a 25-year-old felon from Waterloo, Iowa, was caught with a gun by police officers conducting surveillance on a home in Waterloo. The incident led to a search of the home, where the firearm was found. Scott pleaded guilty to possession of a firearm by a felon on February 2, 2026. He was sentenced to 12 months and one day in federal prison for his crime.
Scott’s sentencing was handed down by United States District Court Chief Judge C.J. Williams in Cedar Rapids. In addition to his prison term, Scott will also serve a three-year term of supervised release. As there is no parole in the federal system, Scott will have to see out his full sentence.
The case against Scott was part of Operation Take Back America, a nationwide initiative aimed at combating violent crime and protecting communities from perpetrators. The investigation was led by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Waterloo Police Department, with prosecution by Assistant United States Attorney Lisa C. Williams.
Scott is currently being held in the United States Marshal’s custody until he can be transported to a federal prison to begin serving his sentence. The case file number is 25-CR-2045, and more information can be found on the court’s website.
