In a brazen scheme, 59-year-old Steven Mark Hosey of Poca, West Virginia, sold guns to strangers in the parking lot of a federally licensed firearms business in Huntington.
For nearly a year, Hosey operated an unlicensed firearms business, peddling pistols and revolvers to anyone who asked, without a federal license.
Hosey’s illicit operation came to an end on April 10, 2025, when law enforcement agents executed a search warrant at his residence, seizing 34 firearms, including a Glock 9mm pistol, a Colt Anaconda .44 Magnum revolver, and a Kimber Tactical Pro II 9mm pistol.
According to court documents, Hosey sold between 40 and 50 guns for profit, sometimes buying them from licensed dealers with the intention of reselling them to others.
Hosey’s guilty plea sets him up for a potential five-year prison sentence, up to one year of supervised release, and a fine of up to $250,000.
