A Fort Thompson man has been charged with Felon in Possession of Firearms, a serious crime that puts the community in harm’s way.
Conrad Fleury, 34, was indicted by a federal grand jury on April 13, 2016, for knowingly possessing and receiving firearms, despite having been convicted of a crime punishable by imprisonment for a term exceeding one year.
The indictment alleges that Fleury committed the crime on or about February 13, 2016. The maximum penalty upon conviction is up to 10 years in custody and/or a $250,000 fine, 3 years of supervised release, and $100 to the Federal Crime Victims Fund. Restitution may also be ordered.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Meghan N. Dilges is prosecuting the case, which is being conducted by the Bureau of Indian Affairs, Crow Creek Agency.
Fleury appeared before U.S. Magistrate Judge Mark A. Moreno on May 6, 2016, and pled not guilty to the Indictment. He was remanded to the custody of the U.S. Marshals Service pending trial. A trial date has not been set.
The charge is merely an accusation, and Fleury is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
The people of Fort Thompson deserve to feel safe in their community, and this case sends a clear message that felons will be held accountable for their actions.
