Raymond Edward Braun, Felon in Possession of Firearm, Florida 2013

Tampa, Florida – A Hillsborough County man has been sentenced to 15 years in federal prison for being a felon in possession of a firearm and ammunition.

Raymond Edward Braun, 40, of Wimauma, was sentenced by U.S. District Judge James S. Moody, Jr. on October 15, 2013.

Braun pleaded guilty on July 2, 2013, to being a felon in possession of a firearm and ammunition, despite being prohibited from doing so due to his previous felony convictions.

According to court documents, the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office received a complaint on March 20, 2013, that Braun was in possession of a rifle. Deputies arrived at Braun’s residence and recovered the loaded rifle, which contained six rounds of ammunition.

As a previously convicted felon, Braun is prohibited from possessing firearms or ammunition. The firearm and ammunition were recovered at Braun’s residence in Wimauma.

The case was investigated by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office. It is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Joseph W. Swanson.

The case is part of the Project Safe Neighborhoods program, a nationwide gun-violence reduction strategy. Acting United States Attorney A. Lee Bentley, III, and Julie Leon, Special Agent in Charge, ATF, are coordinating the effort in the Middle District of Florida in cooperation with federal, state, and local law enforcement officials.
