Felon Sentenced to 16 Years for Armed Robbery
A 40-year-old Washington, D.C. man has been sentenced to 16 years in prison for his role in a violent armed robbery in Forestville, Maryland.
Reginald Lloyd, who has a prior conviction history, entered a store on September 7, 2011, wearing a black mask and carrying a gun. He ordered an employee at gunpoint to open the cash register, and then pistol-whipped the employee when they were unable to open a safe below the register.
Lloyd and an accomplice stole approximately $964 from the cash register and then attempted to flee the scene. Witnesses called 911 during the robbery, and police were able to track down the getaway vehicle shortly after.
When police stopped the vehicle, Lloyd and his accomplice attempted to escape, but the vehicle hydroplaned and crashed into a gas station. Lloyd was arrested and found to be in possession of a loaded .45 caliber handgun, pepper spray, and $867 in cash.
U.S. District Judge J. Frederick Motz sentenced Lloyd to 16 years in prison followed by five years of supervised release. Lloyd was found guilty of armed robbery, using and brandishing a gun during a crime of violence, and being a felon in possession of a firearm.
United States Attorney Rod J. Rosenstein commended the ATF and Prince George’s County Police Department for their work in the investigation, which was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorneys Steven E. Swaney and Christen A. Sproule.
