FAYETTEVILLE, AR – Marcellius Ricardio Phillips, a 38-year-old Fayetteville man, has been sentenced to 110 months in federal prison followed by three years of supervised release on one count of being a Felon in Possession of a Firearm.
A search warrant was executed at Phillips’ residence on February 7, 2021, by the 4th Judicial District Drug Task Force, who were investigating drug trafficking offenses in the Western District of Arkansas. During the arrest, Detectives found a loaded handgun in Phillips’ pocket.
Phillips, a convicted felon, is prohibited from possessing any firearms. Acting U.S. Attorney David Clay Fowlkes made the announcement, stating that Phillips’ actions put the community at risk.
The 4th Judicial District Drug Task Force investigated the case, with Assistant U.S. Attorney David Harris prosecuting the case under Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), a program aimed at reducing violent crime and making neighborhoods safer.
Project Safe Neighborhoods was reinvigorated in 2017 as part of the renewed focus on targeting violent criminals, directing all U.S. Attorney’s Offices to work in partnership with law enforcement and the local community to develop effective strategies to reduce violent crime.
The sentencing was presided over by the Honorable Timothy L. Brooks in the United States District Court in Fayetteville. Phillips will begin serving his sentence after the completion of any appeal process.
As part of the community’s efforts to reduce violent crime, the U.S. Attorney’s Office continues to work with local law enforcement to hold individuals accountable for their actions and keep the streets safe for residents.
