A convicted felon with a lengthy rap sheet has been slapped with a federal firearm charge in Florida, and it’s likely to stick him with a life sentence.
Anthony Donnell Pew, a 47-year-old from Orlando, was arrested on an indictment charging him with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon in Ocala, Florida. According to the indictment, Pew’s prior felony convictions make him ineligible to possess firearms and ammunition under federal law.
The indictment, handed down by a federal grand jury on April 2, 2024, details Pew’s extensive history of crime, including 14 previous felony convictions. These crimes include tampering with evidence, felony battery, and multiple sales of controlled substances.
On February 28, 2023, Pew was found to be in possession of two handguns and ammunition, further violating federal law. The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) and the Eustis Police Department are leading the investigation into Pew’s activities.
The case is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Hannah Nowalk, who will push for the maximum penalty. If convicted, Pew faces a minimum mandatory sentence of 15 years in federal prison, up to life.
The arrest is part of the federal government’s Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN) initiative, a program aimed at reducing violent crime and gun violence by fostering trust and legitimacy in communities, supporting community-based organizations, and setting focused enforcement priorities.
Anthony Pew is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. However, with his extensive history of crime and the severity of the federal firearm charge, it’s likely that Pew will face significant time behind bars.
