Stephen Tyler Dawe, Felon in Possession of Firearms, New Mexico 2024

The streets of Albuquerque have seen their fair share of crime, but one man’s recent conviction serves as a stark reminder that breaking the law will not be tolerated. Stephen Tyler Dawe, 38, was sentenced to 60 months in prison for being a felon in possession of firearms and ammunition.

According to court documents, Dawe was arrested in October 2014 after a search revealed he was in possession of an unregistered firearm and ammunition. The charges stemmed from a September 28, 2014 incident in Bernalillo County, where Dawe was caught with a single-shot 12-gauge weapon made from a shotgun and multiple rounds of ammunition.

At the time of his arrest, Dawe was prohibited from possessing firearms or ammunition due to previous convictions, including shooting at or from a motor vehicle, receiving or transferring a stolen motor vehicle, and being a felon in possession of a firearm.

Dawe’s downfall began when he was arrested on a criminal complaint alleging the unlawful possession of the firearm and ammunition. He was subsequently indicted on October 7, 2014, and charged with the crimes.

On November 24, 2014, Dawe pled guilty to the indictment, admitting to possessing the firearm, which was loaded with ammunition, and carrying additional ammunition at the time of his arrest.

The case was investigated by the Albuquerque office of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and the Albuquerque Police Department. Assistant U.S. Attorney Paul Mysliwiec prosecuted the case.

Dawe’s sentence serves as a stark reminder of the consequences of breaking the law. The Grimy Times urges all residents to take responsibility for their actions and to respect the law.
