Felony Firearms Charge Filed Against Local Man
MARTINSBURG, WEST VIRGINIA – A Kearneysville man has been accused of committing a serious crime that puts the public at risk.
William Edwin Rogers, 27, has been indicted for one count of “Unlawful Possession of a Firearm.” This charge is a direct result of his previous felony conviction in Jefferson County.
Rogers, who is prohibited from possessing a firearm, allegedly committed the crime on April 27, 2016, in Berkeley County. If convicted, he faces up to 10 years in prison and a $250,000 fine.
“An indictment is merely an accusation,” said Acting United States Attorney Betsy Steinfeld Jividen. “A defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.”
Rogers’ case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Anna Z. Krasinski, with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives leading the investigation.
The Federal Sentencing Guidelines will determine the actual sentence imposed, taking into account the seriousness of the offense and Rogers’ prior criminal history.
The community deserves to be protected from individuals who choose to disregard the law and wield firearms illegally. We will continue to work tirelessly to ensure the safety of our citizens.
This case serves as a reminder that the consequences of committing a felony firearms offense are severe and long-lasting.
