Felon in Possession of a Firearm Lands Charleston Man Behind Bars
A Charleston man, Derrick Lamb, 24, has been sentenced to three years and ten months in federal prison for being a felon in possession of a firearm.
Lamb’s crime was discovered on April 13, 2015, when law enforcement arrested him and found him in possession of a Taurus .38 caliber revolver. This arrest led to a guilty plea in January 2016.
Lamb’s possession of a firearm is a serious offense due to his 2012 felony conviction in Kanawha County Circuit Court for possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver. This conviction prohibits him from possessing any firearm.
The investigation into Lamb’s crime was conducted by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and the Charleston Police Department. Assistant United States Attorney John J. Frail is in charge of the prosecution.
United States District Judge John T. Copenhaver, Jr., imposed the sentence. This case was brought as part of Project Safe Neighborhoods, a nationwide commitment to reduce gun crime in the United States by networking existing local programs targeting gun crime.
Lamb’s sentence serves as a reminder of the consequences of gun crime in West Virginia. The state has seen its fair share of gun-related crimes, and this case should serve as a warning to those who would commit similar offenses.
The Charleston community can rest a little easier knowing that Lamb will be behind bars for the next three years and ten months. The Grimy Times will continue to follow this story and provide updates as more information becomes available.
