A Quincy man has been sentenced to 20 years in prison for his role in a fentanyl and cocaine trafficking operation. Jonathan Andrade, 37, was sentenced by U.S. District Court Chief Judge Patti B. Saris to 20 years in prison and five years of supervised release.
Andrade pleaded guilty in January 2018 to charges of possession with intent to distribute fentanyl, cocaine, and cocaine base, being a felon in possession of a firearm, and possession of a firearm in furtherance of a drug trafficking offense. The charges stem from a search warrant executed at his apartment in Quincy on Sept. 15, 2017.
Agents knocked on the door and announced their presence, but there was no response. They then forced the door open and recovered a black canvas bag thrown from the open window by Andrade. The bag contained approximately two kilograms of cocaine, one kilogram of fentanyl, and 250 grams of cocaine base.
A further search of the apartment recovered a Taurus, Model 709FS, 9mm semi-automatic firearm that was one of 33 firearms reported stolen in December 2012. The agents also found approximately $20,000, luxury jewelry, and several gold bars. Baggies and a heat sealer were recovered from the kitchen.
A search of Andrade’s vehicles – a BMW, Altima, Malibu, and Dodge Van – discovered two electronic hides within the Altima. The hides contained approximately one kilogram each of cocaine and fentanyl.
The case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Emily Cannon of U.S. Attorney Andrew E. Lelling’s Organized Crime and Gang Unit. The investigation was led by the FBI’s Boston Field Division and the Boston Police Department.
Andrade’s sentence serves as a reminder of the severe consequences for those involved in the trafficking of fentanyl and other illicit substances. The Grimy Times will continue to follow this case and provide updates as more information becomes available.
