Fentanyl Death Deal Lands Trenton Woman Behind Bars
Tarashanna Blake, 33, a Trenton resident, has admitted to her role in distributing fentanyl that led to the tragic death of a 39-year-old woman from Monmouth County, New Jersey. The devastating incident occurred on May 15, 2018, in Englishtown, where Blake sold fentanyl to the victim, who later succumbed to acute fentanyl toxicity.
According to court documents and statements made in court, Blake had agreed to meet with the victim at a location in Englishtown to complete a heroin sale. However, it was later revealed that the substance she sold was fentanyl, a much more potent narcotic than heroin. The victim’s body was found at the scene, with several wax folds of suspected heroin stamped ‘CAMEL’ and empty wax folds bearing the same stamp.
Blake’s guilty plea comes with serious consequences, as she faces a maximum penalty of 20 years in prison and a $1 million fine. Due to the fact that the offense resulted in death, she is subject to significant sentencing enhancements.
The investigation leading to Blake’s guilty plea was a collaborative effort between the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration, the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office, the Englishtown Police Department, and the Trenton Police Department’s Narcotics Task Force.
Acting U.S. Attorney Rachael A. Honig credited the special agents and detectives involved in the investigation, stating that their tireless efforts resulted in today’s guilty plea.
Blake is scheduled to be sentenced on December 3, 2021. The case serves as a stark reminder of the devastating consequences of fentanyl distribution and the importance of holding individuals accountable for their actions.
