Derrick Serignet, a 44-year-old New Orleans felon, was caught red-handed with a loaded Glock and over 100 baggies of fentanyl and cocaine on February 4, 2026, during a traffic stop in the Central City area. The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) had been surveilling Serignet after receiving tips that he was selling narcotics in the area. Serignet’s prior felony conviction for attempted armed robbery prohibited him from possessing a firearm.

According to court documents, Serignet had a loaded 9mm caliber pistol in one pocket and over 50 baggies of fentanyl and 50 baggies of cocaine in the other, which he intended to distribute. The FBI and New Orleans Police Department conducted the traffic stop, leading to Serignet’s arrest and subsequent guilty plea on August 6, 2026.

As a result of his guilty plea, Serignet faces up to 20 years in prison, a $1,000,000 fine, and at least three years of supervised release for the drug trafficking conviction. Additionally, he faces up to 15 years in prison, a $250,000 fine, and up to three years of supervised release for being a felon in possession of a firearm.

The case was investigated by the FBI and the New Orleans Police Department, with Assistant United States Attorney David Berman of the Violent Crime Unit handling the prosecution.
