Dakota Ianniello, a 55-year-old former Kauai resident, was busted for trafficking fentanyl in Hawaii. On May 23, 2025, law enforcement seized approximately 81.5 grams of fentanyl from Ianniello’s vehicle. The suspect was arrested on July 21, 2026, in the Western District of Wisconsin and later admitted to distributing the deadly opioid to others.
Ianniello’s indictment on July 23, 2026, is the result of a joint investigation by the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) and the Kauai Police Department. The case is part of Operation Take Back America, a nationwide initiative aimed at combating transnational criminal organizations and protecting communities from violent crime.
If convicted, Ianniello faces a minimum of 5 years and up to 40 years in prison, a fine of up to $5,000,000, and at least 4 years of supervised release. The prosecution is being handled by Special Assistant U.S. Attorney Heidi Turner.
