Fernando Hernandez, a 42-year-old Mexican national, pleaded guilty today to conspiring to distribute and distributing narcotics in and around Portland, Oregon.
According to the U.S. Department of Justice, Hernandez was extradited from Canada to face charges in connection with his alleged involvement in a large-scale drug trafficking operation.
As part of his plea agreement, Hernandez admitted to conspiring to distribute and distributing narcotics, including fentanyl and other controlled substances, in the Portland area.
The exact date of Hernandez’s extradition from Canada was not specified in the Department of Justice’s press release, but it is reported to have occurred in 2024.
Hernandez is scheduled to be sentenced on May 15, 2024, at which time he faces a maximum of 20 years in prison and a fine of up to $1 million.
The plea agreement also requires Hernandez to forfeit any assets derived from his alleged involvement in the drug trafficking operation.
The U.S. Department of Justice credited the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s (ICE) Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) with investigating the case, which was brought by the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Oregon.
