Roderick Terrell Ferrell, Cocaine Distribution, Georgia 2024

ALBANY, Ga. – Roderick Terrell Ferrell, 37, of Albany, is trading the Georgia heat for federal concrete after being sentenced to ten years in prison for running cocaine through Southwest Georgia. The career criminal, with a rap sheet including robbery by force, distribution of controlled substances, and even terroristic threats, was slapped with 120 months by U.S. District Judge Leslie Gardner on June 25, followed by six years of supervised release. He’d previously copped to one count of distribution of cocaine on Oct. 30, 2024, but his history sealed his fate as a career offender – meaning no parole.

U.S. Attorney William R. “Will” Keyes didn’t mince words. “Defendants with long criminal records who consistently ignore the law will find their cases in federal court,” he stated. The bust was a multi-agency effort, with cops from the DEA, FBI, Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI), and Lee County Sheriff’s Office all chipping in to build the case against Ferrell. They acted on tips from confidential sources pointing to Ferrell sourcing coke from a metro-Atlanta co-conspirator. The feds weren’t kidding around.

The investigation revealed a significant operation. A search warrant on one of Ferrell’s suppliers turned up cocaine, and investigators quickly determined he’d already moved at least 18 ounces of powder. On Nov. 8, 2021, agents conducted a controlled buy, catching Ferrell selling two ounces for $2,150. Ferrell wasn’t exactly subtle either – he admitted to being pulled over on Oct. 13, 2022, with $30,000 in cash from a recent drug deal. And then there was the ten pounds of marijuana found during a traffic stop on Nov. 30, 2023, destined for Camilla, Georgia.

But the drugs were just part of the story. The DEA’s financial investigators dug into Ferrell’s finances and uncovered a sophisticated money laundering scheme. Between 2021 and 2023, Ferrell managed to funnel approximately $383,057 in drug proceeds through his bank account, CashApp, a local business, and accounts belonging to his co-conspirator, all while claiming no income on his taxes. The man wasn’t just dealing, he was living large.

The ill-gotten gains weren’t being stuffed under a mattress. Ferrell and his girlfriend used the drug money to buy a 2021 Mercedes Benz GLE, designer goods from Christian Dior, Louis Vuitton, Saks, Gucci, and Balenciaga, fund luxury vacations, rent a home near Atlanta, and even invest in a local business that never actually opened. The feds presented all of this at sentencing, ensuring Ferrell was held accountable for distributing approximately 6.5 kilograms of cocaine and 47 kilograms of marijuana.

“Our communities remain under attack by career criminals,” said Jae W. Chung, Acting Special Agent in Charge of the DEA Atlanta Division. Lee County Sheriff Reggie Rachals echoed the sentiment, stating, “Career offenders who continue to commit serious crimes…will face federal prison sentences without parole.” For Ferrell, that statement isn’t a threat – it’s a promise kept. The message is clear: move drugs in Southwest Georgia, and you’ll end up swapping your freedom for a federal cell.”
