Santa Fe Man, Bank Robbery, Sentenced in New Mexico
ALBUQUERQUE – A Santa Fe man was sentenced to 40 months in prison for his role in a bank robbery in Espanola, New Mexico. Fidel Naranjo, 27, was sentenced by a federal judge in Albuquerque for his conviction in the December 2, 2015 robbery of the New Mexico Bank and Trust branch located at 411 Carr Lane in Espanola.
Naranjo pleaded guilty to the indictment, admitting that he entered the bank, threatened to shoot a bank teller, and demanded money. He was driven away from the scene by his accomplice, Kendra Brophy.
Brophy, 29, of San Pedro, New Mexico, was sentenced to a year of probation to be served under home confinement with electronic monitoring, followed by five years of supervised release. She was also ordered to perform 300 hours of community service and complete a 90-day inpatient substance abuse treatment program.
The case was investigated by the Albuquerque office of the FBI and was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Edward Han.
According to the complaint, Naranjo robbed the bank by approaching a bank teller, threatening to shoot her, and demanding money. He left the bank and was driven away from the scene by Brophy.
Naranjo and Brophy were subsequently indicted on December 17, 2015, and charged with bank robbery. Naranjo pleaded guilty on April 25, 2016, while Brophy pleaded guilty to a felony information charging her with misprision of a felony on April 21, 2016.
