Fla. Man Sentenced for Jan. 6 Capitol Breach

Washington – Ryan K. Yates, a 37-year-old from Holiday, Florida, has been sentenced to six months in prison for his role in the Jan. 6, 2021, U.S. Capitol breach. The sentence also includes three months of home detention, 24 months of supervised release, and a $2,000 restitution order by U.S. District Judge Trevor N. McFadden.

According to court documents, Yates entered the restricted area of the Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021, where he pushed away barricades and joined a group of rioters attempting to break into the House floor. This investigation was led by the FBI’s Tampa and Washington Field Offices, with support from the U.S. Capitol Police and the Metropolitan Police Department. Since Jan. 6, 2021, over 1,450 individuals have been charged in relation to the breach, including more than 500 for assaulting or impeding law enforcement.
