Defendant Pleads Guilty to Gun Charge in Florence Federal Court

Florwer Carlin Lizano, 31, of Dillon, South Carolina, has pleaded guilty to possession of a firearm by a prohibited person in Florence federal court. The crime, which carries a maximum penalty of up to 10 years in prison and a fine of $250,000, was committed on August 5, 2016, according to the evidence presented at the guilty plea hearing.

Lizano was found asleep in a vehicle at 5:00am by an officer with the Dillon Police Department. The officer observed a handgun in Lizano’s waistband, which led to his arrest. It was later determined that Lizano was a previously convicted felon, making him legally prohibited from possessing a firearm.

Assistant United States Attorney Buddy Bethea of the Florence office handled the case. United States District Judge R. Bryan Harwell of Florence accepted the plea and will impose sentence after reviewing the presentence report, which will be prepared by the U.S. Probation Office.
