A Kansas man has been sentenced to 126 months in prison for distributing child sexual abuse materials (CSAM). David M. Follett, 38, of El Dorado pleaded guilty to one count of distribution of child pornography.
According to court documents, Follett used his computer to share child pornography with other users on a peer-to-peer filesharing network. Among the recipients was an agent from Homeland Security Investigations (HSI). This disturbing activity was uncovered during an investigation that led to the execution of a search warrant at Follett’s home.
During the search, agents found evidence of child pornography activities on Follett’s laptop, further solidifying the case against him. The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) worked together to investigate the case, demonstrating a commitment to combating the exploitation of children.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Jason Hart prosecuted the case, which was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood. This nationwide initiative was launched in May 2006 by the Department of Justice to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse. Project Safe Childhood aims to marshal federal, state, and local resources to better locate, apprehend, and prosecute individuals who exploit children via the Internet, as well as to identify and rescue victims.
The sentencing of David M. Follett to 126 months in prison serves as a reminder of the severe consequences for those who engage in the distribution of child pornography. It also underscores the importance of initiatives like Project Safe Childhood in protecting the most vulnerable members of our society. Follett serves as a stark reminder of the harsh reality of child pornography distribution and the crucial role that law enforcement and initiatives like Project Safe Childhood play in combating this egregious crime.
