FLORENCE, S.C. — A Myrtle Beach man has been locked away for four years after being convicted of transporting a minor for sex.
James Edward Moss Jr., 40, was sentenced to 55 months imprisonment by United States District Judge Joseph Dawson, III, followed by a 10-year term of court-ordered supervision. He must register as a sex offender and pay $3,000 in restitution to the victim.
The grim saga began last April when Moss met a minor online, picked her up, and led her to a hotel room for sexual encounters. The investigation yielded evidence that between April 20 and April 23, 2022, he recorded several videos of his despicable acts.
Moss’s sentence is part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide effort to combat child sexual exploitation. Assistant U.S. Attorneys Lauren Hummel and Bill Watkins led the prosecution.
The FBI Columbia field office and the Horry County Police Department conducted the investigation. The justice system has spoken, and the predator will now pay for his crimes.
