A 63-year-old British citizen, Ada Ngozi Otuka, residing in Katy, Texas, has pleaded guilty to illegal voting in US elections. Otuka, a lawful resident but not a US citizen, voted in multiple elections, including 2012, 2016, 2018, 2020, and 2024. Despite being aware of her ineligibility, Otuka continued to cast ballots, falsifying her citizenship status on voter registration forms. Her actions were discovered in 2025, and she now faces up to 6 years in federal prison.
Otuka’s case is not an isolated incident. Another British citizen, Samuel James Hall, also pleaded guilty to unlawful voting in a separate case. The investigations, conducted by the FBI, Immigration and Customs Enforcement Homeland Security Investigations, and the Texas Attorney General’s Office, highlight the importance of protecting the integrity of US elections.
Assistant US Attorney Liesel Roscher is prosecuting the case, which will be sentenced by US District Judge Alfred H. Bennett on November 5. Otuka faces up to 5 years in prison for falsely claiming US citizenship and an additional year for the conviction of illegal voting, as well as a potential fine of up to $250,000.
The outcome of this case serves as a reminder that voting is a fundamental right reserved for US citizens, and any attempts to undermine the electoral process will be thoroughly investigated and prosecuted.
